In the midst of the busy, vibrant streets of Rome sits the mighty Pantheon from 2,000 years ago. It is the most preserved and influential ancient monument in the world. This Pantheon dome remains the largest unsupported dome in the world! The diameter is 142 feet across (note that the U.S. Capital Building is 96 feet across). The pillar of light that you see in my photo is called "The Eye of the Pantheon." The architects slanted the floor so that when rain water comes through the eye, the water will drain to the center. Originally, this monument was built to honor their gods, but it was turned into a church around 609 AD. It now entombs several Italian kings and artists, exemplifying how important the arts were to the Roman people. Technically, this is the second Pantheon because the first one that was built in the same spot was burned down in 80 AD. Thank goodness Emperor Hadrian felt passionate about rebuilding it so that we could take beautiful pictures of it 2,000 years later! I encourage you to share your breathtaking pictures of ancient Rome. Their story has truly become part of our story today.

Sometimes there can be an obstacle in front of our happiness. In this case, the bird represents us and the water is the obstacle. We can't let ourselves give up on happiness even if it's not easily seen or under a layer of difficulty.
The bird has faith that the fish is under that dark and mysterious water, even after a few "grasping" failures. Right after I captured this photo, the bird dove down again and successfully grabbed dinner and went on its way. Next time you have a stretch of bad days, remember this picture and the bird that didn't give up. A smile is around every corner, there just might be more corners than you originally thought. **Find the hidden meaning behind a captured image** National Geographic wrote an article that grasps your soul... "Their images remind us that a photograph has the power to do infinitely more than document. It can transport us to unseen worlds." Photography has the power to express so many different emotions. When a little girl sees her father walk off the airplane from his time of service overseas, that exuberant smile and happiness can be captured in a photo. Those moments are inspirational to humanity. But when you see a picture of a little boy is covered in rags and his bones poke through his skin, people's hearts throb. Seeing that photo is painful and it evokes a feeling of sympathy so strong that it has the ability to change lives. Do you think photography can be powerful? The beauty of photography is its ability to allow us to learn, without directly experiencing, lessons about losing loved ones, love, leadership, conflict, etc. Photography challenges you to go beyond the surface, beyond that one perspective. It urges you to stand out. But no matter what, all of us have our own voice. We construct our own vision that creates unique images. Zora Neale Hurston's Their Eyes Were Watching God states, "There is a depth of thought untouched by words." Pictures lead us to so many dimensions of understanding that is too difficult to express through pen and paper. Find the lessons you can take away from photography. My philosophy is overcompensation. Don’t be afraid of stretching it too far. I encourage you to look deeper, see deeper, and think deeper. What does this picture represent to you? Have you ever felt hopeless or lonely? Look up and find the light above you. Turn around and find the person ready to help you.
Here's to you and your open mind! May photography be your window. My name is Kelly Peterson and I am super excited to follow my heart further into the world of photography. In order to get any business started you need to put yourself out there to be heard which is why I created this website. I began with making a portfolio, but then I was reminded that all success starts with collaboration. Voila! I made a blog because four eyes (or more I hope) are better than two! Teamwork makes the dream work! |
Greetings!I'm Kelly! I like to find beauty in what might seem mundane to us over time and bring to life what we experience each day. Check out the About Me tab for an additional look at who I am. Archives
